“Red Truck Books, this is Geneva.”

“Hi, Ms. Crane, it’s Nick Janzek, Charleston Pol—”

“Yes, Detective, as I told you, I never met a detective before, so it would be hard to forget you,” Geneva said. “You calling to check on my supply of Bernard Cornwell novels?”

“Nothing I’d like better than to read a good book right now. But I got my hands full at the moment. I wondered if I could buy you a cup of coffee. Just need to ask you a few more questions.”

"Not about the mayor, I hope?"

"No," Janzek said, "but if there's anything you care to add on that subject—"

"There isn't."

Janzek looked at his watch. It was 11:30.

"I've got a better idea," he said, segueing into what he had planned all along. "Could I buy you lunch? There’s that place, Virginia's, up near you. My partner told me it’s good.”

“It is and I would love to,” Geneva said. “Is this like a date, Detective?"

Janzek sighed. "It’s like a date, but different.”

“So... you mean... a business date.”

“Well, yes.”

"Aw, shucks."

"Is 12:30 good?"

"Sure, I'll see you then.”
